High nervous tension has become prevalent in much of civilized
world. Considering ill effects of high nervous tension in adult life, relaxed habits of living are desirable.
Prevention is better than cure.
Living at high tension has for a long time been the order of the day.
With the advent of express trains, the telephone, the mobile phone, the automobile, the radio or television, and
other products it is well known that the general pace of life is increased.
Advice -- Relax.
Similarly opportunities and competitions have developed not alone in business but also in the social, professional
and educational worlds. This has resulted in demands on nervous energy of every individual in modern life, demands that would not have
been present many years ago.
The career of the average business man is a familiar example of high tension living. As
executive, he is busy in lot of activities that involve nerve tension during practically entire day.
Tensions in office during the day are likely to continue in the background of his evening occupations.
In many instances, his recreations fail to bring adequate refreshment. He fails to relax.
Social affairs in modern life often prove no less wearing. Small talk in evening parties may
make a demand upon nervous energies comparable with that required for concentrated work.
High nervous tension is increased with the frequent use of alcoholic beverages and with the common presence of
sexual urges.
Despite much of so-called recreation, the individual fails to secure that degree of relaxation which is preventive
and / or curative. The degree of unwinding
and relaxing required is far more than achieved in recreation for its
beneficial effects.
